Obituary of Risa Ann Grime

Risa Grime (nee Folini), beloved wife of Peter Grime, of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the age of 73 years following a short but hard fought battle with cancer.

Risa was born in Oakland, CA, and attended Mountain View High School in Palo Alto. After this time, she spent a year in Austria studying the German language, in which she was fluent.

In trying to decide on a career path, Risa worked as a flight attendant and as a bank teller before determining that she wanted to follow her mother into the nursing profession. Her research led her to the Highland College of Nursing in Inverness, Scotland, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1978. She further extended her training and became a certified Midwife in 1980.

Risa married Peter in September 1980, and following short stays in the UK and Germany, they eventually immigrated to Calgary, AB in 1990. This is where Risa continued her nursing career at the Calgary General Hospital, and the Peter Lougheed Centre, eventually retiring to Cochrane in 2016.

Risa had many interests and hobbies. She particularly enjoyed all genres of music, a good book, fine food and wine, as well as the occasional round of golf. She loved to travel and achieved a lifelong ambition of “rounding Cape Horn” in 2023, which gave her great pleasure.

Besides her loving husband Peter, Risa is survived by her cousin Anne in Wisconsin, USA; numerous nieces and nephews; Grime and Lindsay family members; along with her many friends and nursing associates.

She was predeceased by her parents, Peter Angelo and Emily Leona Folini.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (East of the James Walker Trail and Highway 22 intersection, Cochrane, Alberta) on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Grime’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
