Ruth Bond

Obituary of Ruth Alexandra Bond

June 18, 1929 - Calgary, Alberta

January 11, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Ruth Alexandra Bond (née Wylie) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 94 years.

Ruth was a courageous and loving person, a dedicated nurse, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a caring sister, aunt, and great-aunt, and a loyal friend to many.

With grace and dignity, she suffered the loss of her only son (Gregory Bond) from a brain tumour when he was just 35. This led her to moving to Toronto for several months, with her husband (Kenneth Leon Bond), to help Greg's wife (Irene) care for him during his illness. Greg was a talented singer, songwriter, and entertainer, and, after his passing, Ruth and Irene set up a memorial fund that continues to provide annual scholarships for students of musical theatre.

When Ken, her true love and soulmate of 53 years, suffered a stroke in 2005, Ruth practically lived at the hospital for the two months before he died.

She was a pillar of her community, a committed member of the choir at her church (Woodcliff United in Wildwood), and a willing volunteer for several charities. She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered.

As per Ruth’s wishes, a private service will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Ruth’s family here. She is survived by her daughter (Beverly Mason), grand-daughter (Kristina Sky), daughter-in-law (Irene Bond) and many beloved members of the extended Bond and O’Reilly clans.

Ruth’s photo is of her enjoying one of her many visits to California, on the SS Coconut, with Mexican hairless pals, Tinkerbell and Gilligan.

Ruth's family would gratefully appreciate donations in her memory to the Greg Bond Musical Theatre Fund at https://torontofoundation.ca/greg-bond-musical-theatre-fund.
