Lauretta Jean Standish of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 83 years.

Jean was born to Margaret and Alan Blackwell in Calgary, AB on January 2, 1941. On May 7, 1966, Jean married the love of her life, Michael Clark Standish. Mike and Jean shared their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary on May 7, 2023. Their years together were full of love and happiness. Jean was the most amazing mother to Ken (Heather) Standish of Australia, Cathy (Rob) Wensveen of Calgary, and Tricia (Farron) Wick of Rocky View County.  Jean was a wonderful Gramma to Victoria (Scott) Randall, Liam (Kloe) Standish, Jennifer (Jesse) Buchholz, Travis Wensveen, Cortina Wick and Nolan Wick. Jean was the proud Great-Granny to five great-grandchildren.

Jean was a very compassionate, loving, selfless individual always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.  Jean was a registered nurse and devoted her career to caring for others.  She was always actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives; volunteering at schools, leading the Brownies division of Girl Guides, a famous baker to those that knew her, and always the biggest fan at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Jean enjoyed camping and cross-country skiing with friends and family.  Jean was known for her great sense of humour. Jean will be dearly missed as she has left a lasting impression on all of us.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Mike Standish (May 11, 2023), her parents, Margaret and Alan Blackwell, and her sister, Donna Lynne Tribble.

Much gratitude and recognition go to the wonderful staff of Dulcina Hospice. Thank you so very much for all your compassion and outstanding care.

As per Jean’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. She hopes rather that you all can take your favourite memory you have of her and remember your good times together. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
