Obituary of Grant Peter Pisko

November 30, 1942 - Lethbridge, Alberta

January 15, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Grant Pisko, beloved husband of Janice, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 81 years in Calgary, AB.

Grant was predeceased by his mother Mary and his father Peter. He is survived by his loving wife Janice (nee McFarlane) Pisko, their children, Matthew (Erin) Pisko, Lindsay (Lance) Ganske, Jason (Jennifer) Gillies, Brett (Michelle) Gillies; their six grandchildren Danika, Hudson, Alex, Jack, Mason, and Savannah; along with his siblings, Joyce (Bruce) Cowie, Kathy (Bob) Broder, and Carsen Pisko.

Grant was born and raised in Lethbridge, AB. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Lethbridge after which he embarked on a successful career in business, beginning with Vauxhall Foods where he had the opportunity to travel internationally, before settling with his family in Medicine Hat. He began what would become a 38-year career in the telecommunications industry with the Monarch Group as a manager, and part of the executive team to its various businesses.

Grant also dedicated his time to various volunteer roles, including serving on the University of Lethbridge Board of Governors, as President of the Medicine Hat YMCA, and as a board member of the Alberta Recycling Management Authority.

Beyond his professional life, Grant enjoyed nothing more than spending time on the golf course. He also loved spending summers on the Flathead Lake, transitioning from skiing behind the boat to hosting family and friends on the water, giving notorious tube and water toy rides. Winters were often spent caravanning his family on ski trips to Whitefish, Fernie, and Elkwater, creating many family memories and stories that we still tell to this day.

A talented musician, Grant started with the accordion as a teen, moving to playing bass guitar in many music groups, including the 1970s Lethbridge cabaret group, the Point of Interest.

In retirement, Grant cherished his days as a “kept-man”, residing with Jan for six years in Jamaica and spending summers in Bigfork, Montana.

The family expresses gratitude to the physicians and staff at McKenzie Towne Long-Term Care facility for their care and support.
