Obituary of Patricia Hunt
Patricia “Anne” Hunt of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the age of 97 years. She was surrounded by family and left us very peacefully.
Patricia was the third daughter of Edward “Chap” Joseph Naylen and Christina “Teen” Paul Naylen. She attended a one-room school in Kola, MB, about one and half miles from the family farm. Her sisters, Eileen, and Merle also attended this school and later her sister Monica. Her parents had a small band that played at local schools, and the three girls often sang with them. Music was always important to Patricia. She played the piano and sang harmony with her sisters. They also enjoyed highland dancing together.
Patricia attended high school in Elkhorn, MB, living with the Fraser family. The daughter, Jean Fraser, was one of Patricia’s best friends. After high school she went to Teachers college. She taught in several places in Manitoba. Eventually, she was teaching in Carlyle, SK, where she met a RCMP officer named Norman Hunt. Patricia and Norman were married November 14, 1955, and welcomed four sons, Gerald, Wayne, Greg, and Scott. Norman died of cancer in May 1961 at the age of 31.
Patricia raised her four sons in Calgary, AB, and taught in the Separate School Board. She retired from teaching in 1990 and became a substitute teacher for several years. Summers were spent at the Naylen farm in Manitoba. She remained in her own home until health concerns prompted a move to a senior’s centre in 2017. In that year she moved to Age Care Seton, and in 2021 she moved to Silverado Creek Senior’s Community. The staff at these facilities became like members of the family.
Patricia is survived by her sons, grandchildren, Emily, Rafa, Nedin, and Nicole; sisters, Merle Dyck and Vonda Steckler; brothers-in-law, Frank Dyck and Frank Steckler; sister-in-law Doreen Naylen, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Eileen (Edwin) Fowler and Monica (John) Riley; brother Ed Naylen, and nephew Patrick Dyck. Patricia always made the raising of her family, on her own, as her priority. She did a wonderful job, and she will be missed and loved by all her family.
A Celebration of Patricia’s Life will be held at the Delta Calgary South - Rundle Room in the Atrium Building (227 Southland Dr SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
