Obituary of Vernon Harold Jones

Vernon Jones passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 78 years, ending his cancer battle.

Vern was born and raised in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta with a Dental degree in 1967. He began practising in Dawson Creek, BC, where he met his wife, Judy.

In 1970, he and Judy moved to Calgary, where he practised until 2003. He was involved with the Alberta Dental Association as a board member and served as President in 1988. After retiring, he remained involved in Dentistry serving as the Dental Review Officer for Nunavut and the NWT.

Vern enjoyed sports and was a long-time fan of the Eskimos, and was also a curler, golfer, skier, and hiker. Vern was a lover or the natural world being a birdwatcher, gardener, and wildlife enthusiast.

Vern and Judy bred, raised, and exhibited Tibetan Terriers and shared their home with Siamese cats. Vern's lifelong hobby was photography. He and Judy Travelled extensively, visiting six continents and over 60 countries. Vern's favorite was Antarctica, but he loved safaris and gorilla trekking in Africa, as well as hiking into Everest base camp in Tibet.

Vern is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy, his sisters Judy Ubaldi (Erzy), and Lee Atkinson (Nick); and his brother-in-law Chris Cleaver (Marie Yvonne).

At Vern’s request, no funeral service will be held. He would be happy if those who knew him would raise a glass in his memory.
