Obituary of Margaret Graham

July 1, 1939 - Liverpool, England

 January 20, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved Mum (Nana) after a brief illness.

Born in Liverpool, England, at the onset of WW2, Mum’s early recollections included sirens and bomb shelters, happy childhood memories of Catholic school with a myriad of funny nun stories and apprenticing as a window dresser at Cherry’s on Penny Lane.  She felt safest then and is undoubtedly now in her mother’s arms.

Mum met her husband, and our dad, John, after he returned from peacekeeping duties. They married and moved their young family, first to Australia and then to Calgary, Canada, where Margaret fully embraced her new home. She was a keen volunteer, and an avid baker, known for her legendary scones and almond squares. Despite leaving England, Mum was an ardent monarchist, supported the Liverpool FC, and was a fan of just about every British detective series. She enjoyed nights spent reading books, and nesting by the fire. Most of all, she loved her family.

Margaret leaves behind two daughters, Julie (Bill) and Suzanne and two sons, Bernard (Chris) and Michael (Janelle). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Jen, Jack, Olivia, Seth (Kirsten), Kennedy; Mary, Kim, and Laura, and by all her extended family. Margaret was predeceased by her husband John, daughter Kerry, son-in-law Dave, and granddaughter Stephanie.

Finally, we wish to thank all the professional caregivers who have taken care of Mum over the past several months.

Mum, You’ll Never Walk Alone.
