Obituary of Robert Gordon Mitchell

March 27, 1954 - Brantford, Ontario

January 20, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Robert Gordon “Bob” Mitchell, beloved husband of Carmen Perez Cadena, of Manotick, ON, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the age of 69 years.

Bob was born in Brantford, ON, on March 27, 1954, but spent most of his life in Metcalfe and Manotick, ON.

Since he was six years old, he knew he wanted to dedicate his life to agriculture, and he did it with excellence. When it came to farming, Bob could solve any problems and he enjoyed doing it regardless of reward or recognition.

He succeeded in business twice, first as a partner at his family’s farm, Donevelyn Farms Ltd., and after as the founder of Suntech Greenhouses Ltd., a greenhouse that, against all odds, consistently produced the best tomatoes grown in Ottawa.

He dearly loved and was proud of his children, Megan, in Calgary, and Randy (Ashley), in Stoney Creek. Everything he did was with them in mind. He also loved his grandchildren Bowen and Josie, as well as his grandpuppies, Huxley and Miller.

Bob is survived by his mother Vera, two brothers, Ralph (Carole) and Ross (Janet); his sister Bonnie (Sandy), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Bob’s family here.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will take place later this spring.

In living memory of Robert Gordon Mitchell, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
