Obituary of Diane Stimson

Aasainaakii – Crying Girl

July 2, 1965 – Siksika, Alberta

January 18, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our precious Diane Stimson of Siksika Nation, Thursday, January 18, 2024, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 58 years. Diane was blessed with so many roles throughout her life; she was a daughter, mother, grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunty, cousin, a colleague, and a friend to many. Diana’s heart extended to the animal kingdom, and she had a special bond with her beloved pet cat, Pepsi whom she adored and spoiled.

Diane resided in Siksika, Calgary, and Vancouver throughout her life. She loved her family, children, and grandchildren so much and would speak of them often.

Family and friends were so important to Diane; she always kept in touch. She will be remembered as always having a smile on her face, and a love for those who called her “Street Mama”.

In Diane’s early years, she attended school at the Crowfoot School in Siksika, and later in life she moved to Calgary and Vancouver where she received numerous certificates. Diane always enjoyed learning.

Her employment consisted of working at the Sheriff King Home in Calgary, AB, held custodian positions at the Siksika Elders Lodge, Siksika High School, Siksika Sportsplex, Gordon Yellow Fly Pow-Wow Arbor, and security for Siksika’s annual powwow.

Our precious Diane will be greatly missed by her children whom she loved, Tanya, Preston, and Dakota Stimson; grandchildren whom she cherished, Tavan, Vanaya, Destany, Dezzi, Dasia, and Deztan Jobin. Diane will also be missed by her brothers, Daniel, Jordan, and Stewart Stimson; sisters, Maria and Sophie; aunties, Yvonne, Elizabeth, and Leslie Stimson; grandmother Eve Delaney and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, too many to mention.

The news of Diane’s passing came as a shock to all of us; we are struggling to come to terms of her passing as we prepare to send her on her spiritual journey.

Diane is survived by her extended families, Ayoungman, Axes, Back Fat, Black Horse, Brass, Breaker, Bull Bear, Crane Bear, Crowfoot, Doores, Many Guns, Raw Eater, Red Gun, Running Rabbit, Poor Eagle, Pretty Young Man, Spotted Eagle, Stevens, Turning Robe, Weasel Child, Wolf Ear, Wright, Yellow Fly; We sincerely apologize if we missed anyone.

Diane will now be reunited with the family she missed throughout her life. We know she will be welcomed with open arms by her parents, Colin and Bella (nee One Runner) Stimson; paternal grandparents, Connor and Doris (nee Raw Eater) Stimson; maternal grandparents, Banum and Suzy (nee Crane Bear) One Runner; siblings, Colleen, Justine (Tina), Andrew (aka Porky) Stimson, and Jason Dyler; uncles, Edward, Roy, Ralph, Bruce, Richard (aka Dickie), and Chief Adrian Stimson; aunties, Audrey, Betty, Dorothy, Patsy, Peggy Stimson, and Ruby (Freddy) Doore, and granddaughter Baby Tanya Jobin.
