Obituary of Gail Jeannette Sutherland

With great sorrow we announce the passing of Gail J. Sutherland on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the age of 79 years. Her death as come as quite a shock to us as Gail was not ill and we expected her to be with us for many more years.

Gail grew up on the family farm near Fort Macleod, AB and moved to Calgary after high school.  She married Jim in 1970 and moved to London, Ontario.  She instantly inherited a family of three children that had recently lost their mother to cancer.  Gail did the best she could in the situation as she continued her career in payroll and accounting.  Gail and Jim later moved to Houston, TX for several years and then returned to Calgary where they both eventually retired from the Oil and Gas Industry.

As we recover from the sudden loss of Gail, we remember her as a gentle, pleasant person, frail from a physical issue, yet strong in continuing onward after Jim had passed. Finally, they will be together again.

Gail is survived by her stepchildren, Mickey (Toni), Daryl (Janice) and Diane (Paul), seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Her husband Jim, whom she loved very much, passed away in April 2020.  She is also predeceased by her parents Joseph and Annie Rigel, and her brothers Stan and Dick Rigel.  They were all from the Fort Macleod area of Southern Alberta.

As per Gail’s wishes a private service will be held.
