Condolences
The lovely tribute to Jewel from Mary Ann has prompted me to add my memory. Through the years I have often thought about Jewel and her sisters Catherine and Bunny, but due to circumstances, and passing time, have lost touch with the family. I have kept in occasional contact with Mary Ann who called to give me the sad news about Jewel. Her tribute to Jewel brought back all those memories of our much younger days, although she forgot to mention our very competitive, all-night canasta games. Sincere condolences to Jewel’s entire family who, I’m sure, will have many wonderful memories of her and will miss her very much.
Marge (Byzyna) Fedorchuk, Etobicoke, ON
So sad to see that Jewel has passed away.
She was a kind, thoughtful person and will be missed.
Along with her sisters, Cathy and Rosalie (Bunny) we grew up together on Frederica Street in Westfort.
We were a group of three friends. Jewel, Marge (Byzyna) and myself were always seen together.
As neither of us had a car, we traveled by bus. The bus driver on our route labelled us "The Three Musketeers."
We went to many dances at the Coliseum and the Pavilion at Chippewa and attended many hockey games at the Fort William Gardens. Friday nights were movie at the Odeon or Capital theatre.
We camped at Oliver Lake and during the summer we would pack a lunch and ride our bikes or took the bus to Chippewa for the day to swim and relax.
So many lasting memories!
My thoughts and prayers are with her sisters Cathy and Rosalie (Bunny) and the rest of the family at this very difficult time.

I spent many happy hours in Jewel’s kitchen playing cards, learning the fine art of pasta, perogy and bread making with my dear friend, Patricia. Jewel was like my second mother: encouraging, supporting and loving the person I am today. I will miss you Jewel and know that you are catching up with Bob, Patricia and Baba. Give them a hug from me. To Jim, Alisha, Paul and my two dearest ‘nieces’, Mackenzie and Reilly, you have my deepest condolences and know I’m here if you need a hug.
