Obituary of Margaret McFarlane

June 30, 1953 - Brandon, Manitoba

January 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Margaret McFarlane, beloved wife of George McFarlane, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Margaret was born in Brandon, MB, on June 30, 1953, and married George McFarlane in 1976. She is survived by her loving husband, her two sons, Kyle McFarlane (Erin) of Edmonton and Brenton McFarlane (Brenda) of Calgary; and her grandchildren, Hayes, Logan, Madalyn, and Rylan.

Margaret loved looking after her home and family, making sure everyone’s stomachs were full of their favourite family meals, baking everyone’s favourite cookies at Christmas, and always checking up on her sons to make sure they were staying out of trouble. She made a hearty chicken noodle soup from scratch that could cure even the worst flu and made a mean Hot Toddy that could knock you right out.

She will be most remembered for her strong-willed nature, ability to make any plant thrive, her love of horror movies, and her night owl tendencies. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends who love her.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Wilhem (Bill) in 1982 and Julia in 2001; and her brother, Gerald, in 2014.

As per Margaret’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. A gathering will be held at a later date.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Margaret’s family here.
