Obituary of Donna Mary Quigley

June 3, 1928 - Calgary, Alberta

January 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Donna Mary Quigley passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 95 years, in the early evening of Friday, January 26, 2024, with her three children and a beloved caregiver by her side.

Donna lived life fully and independently, with kindness, generosity, and love for others. She blessed her family as a mom of three children, Susan (Gary) Bloom of Spokane, Washington, Mary (Dan) Huntington of Spokane, and Bill Quigley of Calgary; as a Nana of seven grandchildren, Molly (Jeff) Schick of Portland, Oregon, Christy (Ben) Lukes of Spokane, Andy (Karina) Bloom of Spokane, Ben (Heather) Huntington of Spokane, Liz Huntington (Eric Harder) of Portland, Ken Quigley (Lindsay Matchett) of Calgary, and Jim (Veronika) Quigley of Calgary; and as a GG to eleven great-grandchildren, Anna and Emily Schick, Lucy and Cooper Bloom, Sam and Chloe Lukes, June Harder, Emma and Megan Moore, and Jack and Sophia Quigley.

Donna was born in Calgary, AB, on June 3, 1928, to Mary (Mollie) Isabel MacDonald and William Fixter Stevenson. Her sister, Rodena (Roddy) was born six years later. The family moved from Calgary to Edmonton, where Donna graduated from Victoria High School and later worked as a secretary to the President of Dominion Rubber Tire Company. She met her husband, Frank Quigley, while he was a law student at the University of Alberta. They were married at St. Anthony’s Church in Edmonton and moved to Calgary, where they raised their family and celebrated 55 years of marriage before Frank’s passing in 2006.

Donna was a long-time member of St. Gerard’s Parish. She was active in their CWL group and served on the Pastoral Care Ministry Team at Rockyview Hospital. In the early 60s, Donna volunteered at the First Providence Creche, a children's home for preschool children whose families were unable to care for them.

Donna enjoyed golf and was a long-time member of the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. She also played bridge with several ladies’ groups and close friends and was an avid reader. In her earlier years, she enjoyed cross country and downhill skiing. She traveled to Hawaii, Ireland, and England with her husband, made a memorable trip to France with her dear friend Marg Follett, and joined children and grandchildren for holidays and vacations throughout the years in Washington, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, California, and Arizona.

Donna’s favorite place was the family cabin on the Bar KC Ranch in Bragg Creek. The family spent many happy summers and weekends together there, creating treasured memories on the beautiful property in the foothills of the Rockies.

Donna’s last years were assisted by the wonderful care and love of a group of women who made it possible for her to remain in her home until her passing. We are so very grateful to Royal Home Caregivers for their help and support, in particular, Rose, Amouka, Ayen, Haja, as well as Anita, Venus, Grace, and Lalaine, who had been with her since the beginning of her in-home care. We are so very grateful as well for Dr. Andrew Sommerville's long-time medical care, and the many incredible services that AHS coordinated and provided in home for Mom.

Donna is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; her sister Roddy in Edmonton; Caroline Quigley, mother of her grandsons, Ken and Jim; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held for Donna. Funeral services and reception will be held and announced at a later date.

Rest in gentle peace dear mom.

“We are fine.”
