Obituary of Pamela June Meadowcroft

August 12, 1938 – Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, England

January 29, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Pamela Meadowcroft passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the age of 85 years, at George Boyack Nursing Home after a short illness.

Pam was born in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, England, on August 12, 1938, the eldest of three daughters to Cecil and Nancy Bowd. She married her first husband, David, in 1960, and they had three children, Simon, Nicholas, and Jane. Pam worked tirelessly to ensure that the children had a happy upbringing, holding down several jobs, mainly in catering, starting as an assistant in the kitchens and moving on to become head chef at the Art College in Norwich, Norfolk, UK. She also somehow managed to find time to be Brown Owl for the local Brownies, as well as the piano player for the local ladies keep fit classes, and did event catering for several weddings and other occasions.

In 1983, Pam met Bill, and they were married in April of the same year. Bill also had two children, Andrew and Leslie; Pam welcomed having her extended family. Pam and Bill shared a common love of good food, wine, and travelling. They were active members of the twinning association in Wroxham, Norfolk, where they lived and regularly welcomed families from, and travelled to, its twinned town La Pommeraye, in the Loire region of France. They also enjoyed many driving holidays to Norway, getting the ferry across from Newcastle.

Bill’s profession was as a Consultant Design Engineer and as Pam was always keen to learn new skills, he taught her how to use Computer Aided Design software, and she became very proficient at helping Bill with doing detail drawings in the course of his work. It was through Bills design engineering work that Pam and Bill came to move to Calgary in 1997, and they fell in love with Canada, its people, and the Rockies. They spent many happy times together, hiking in the mountains, cross-country skiing in the winter, and playing golf on the many courses around Alberta in the warmer months.

They settled in a villa on Shawnee Slopes near Fish Creek and lived there very happily, celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, until October last year, when they decided to make the move to the Auburn Heights Retirement Home. Unfortunately, Pam wasn’t able to fully enjoy her new home as she was admitted to the hospital in November and discharged to George Boyack nursing home in December, where she spent her last few days.

Pam leaves behind Bill, Nick and Lou, Jane and Nic, and Andrew and Juliette; as well as many grandchildren who will all miss her greatly.
