We are so deeply sorry to hear of Pete's passing. Such a great guy and an all too soon loss for your family. I fondly remember our Caribbean sailing trip so many years ago with Jan and Pete. "McGyver" was the fix it guy on board and ready to rescue us from the torment of uncooperative mechanical gadgetry. Pete's legacy of kindness will live on. Cindy
Having a Motörhead on board a sailing trip proved to be a winning combination. We'd probably still be anchored in the Grenadines if Pete wasn't with us. Pete was a great guy and a gentleman. Keith
Dear Jan,
This eulogy is a great tribute to your husband and shows what a great loss that you are your family have suffered. You've lost your best friend, and you have my deepest sympathies.
Deanna
Jan and family.
My condolences, Peter was a person that I always held in the highest regard. To read of his love for dogs only raises my esteem. I was saddened to hear of your loss
Jan and family,
I was so sad to hear about Peter. I have some great memories of working with him here in Grande Prairie, and will never forget his kindness, willingness to help others and humility. It was an honour to have known him.

Dear Jan and Family,
Pete was a kind and fun loving guy since I met him in Grade 8. Even as a teenager Pete cherished you and your happiness was a joy to be near. May all your wonderful memories give you peace in time. Luanne Benjamin
I consider myself very fortunate and blessed to have met and became friends with Peter.
I met Pete through our employment with Bowes Publishers. Pete was one of my western Canada counterparts.
I was impressed by him from the get go. He was a super smart dude, was way ahead of the curve in our industry. He was also a born leader, respected and just plainly as cool as they come.
We never got together all that often unfortunately but when we did it was like he was a true brother.
We kept in touch so knew what was going on in each others lives.
We all have health and relationship challenges in life. I have had my share. Pete provided me two life adventures at a couple of those tough times for me. I will never ever forget them. They were epic to say the least.
Living in a converted school bus while snowmobiling in the Rockies was the first one. The second was driving his dune buggy through the Mexico Baja desert while he rode his dirt bike.
During our conversations we would always ask each other the standard how are you doing ? He would always, always answer I’m good. That as recent as Christmas past. I did not know he wasn’t doing so good. He would never divulge that to have you worry or express sympathy. Just the kind of guy he was.
I can only hope everyone meets someone in their livese as special as Pete was to me.
Thank you Pete for being a dear friend and providing me with the best adventures a guy could dream of. Rest in peace my friend. I will see you and someday we will have some more adventures together.
Dear Jan and Family
I am so very sorry to hear the news about Pete. Please accept my sincere condolences.
May all the loving memories of Pete help you find peace.
You all are in my thoughts.
Kelly
I have so many fond memories of Peter all throughout our school years. Memories are mostlly of Peter+Jan always together and looking like such a loving fun couple. Hugs to you (((((( Jan and family)))))). When you need Peter whisper his name and he will be right there for you in your heart.
I am so sorry to hear this news. I know Pete from school and even raised a dog named Ringo we bought from his family. My sincerest condolences to Jan and family.
Dear Jan and family,
Sincerest condolences on your crushing loss. As you all face forward, know that his spirit will always be with you.
Peter and I both went to Riverside and Oakridge for school. He was always a kind and fun guy...one not easily forgotten.
May you always remember with love in your hearts
Sincerely, Deborah Smith
I worked with Peter at the Daily Herald-Tribune for many years. We spent countless hours driving to newspapers across the country, sometimes in a pretty cool car. His words of wisdom are still with me today. I smile at the memory of him saying “you are the company you keep” as I tell my children this and remember the moment he shared this. Words cannot express how much he meant to all of us, he was a true leader.
I will never forget Peter. My thoughts are with you all.
My condolences to Jan and the entire family.
I went to Oakridge high school with Pete and Jan.
Pete also played tight end beside me on the undefeated city champs Oakridge Optimist football team. He was a great guy back then too. Sad to hear of his passing.
Jan, Cody and the Woolsey family,
We were saddened to hear of Pete's passing. Please accept our deepest condolences.
Ours thoughts are with you.
My deepest condolences to the family. Peter was an amazing person and it was my absolute honour to have know Peter. I really got to know Peter as we served on the Board of Directors for the Grande Prairie Ski Club, and then when we spent a season working together on the ski hill after he left the paper and I sold my business. He was intelligent and had an awesome sense of humor. I was a pleasure to ride with him in the early morning while grooming the hill. I will forever cherish those insightful conversations and the good humour. I am truly saddened to think of a world without Peter.
My deepest condolences to Peter’s family. I have met a lot of special souls in my journalism travels, but no one like Peter. He believed in the journalists at the DHT. When he found out I was a biker, he lent me a motorcycle. I had come from Newfoundland to work at the DHT and left my motorcycle behind. Those days on that bike still bring a smile to my face. I had never experienced such generosity before. Every publisher I had worked for before him and after him didn’t have the gentle soul Peter had. He spoiled us. He believed in us. Peter would walk through the newsroom each day with a big smile on his face and say hello to everyone. He would stop and chat with a different person each day. I loved those chats. When he told everyone he was leaving the DHT, this staff he nurtured and fought for collapsed against the walls and many began crying. I’ve never seen that before or since, and I was in the business for 25 years. Today I will tell my journalism students about Peter, how I hope they have a Peter as a boss one day and how the world is just a little bit lesser without him in it. Thank you, Peter.
Deepest condolences to Peter’s family. Such a nice man.
What a week this has been - so full of emotions! One minute such sadness at the loss and the next so full of good memories and celebration of the life Pete lived. We’ve known Pete, Jan and the kids from the early 80’s in Sherwood Park when the kids were very young and as time went by and the Woolsey’s moved, we saw each other less frequently, yet it always felt that it had been but a day or two. It’s such a rich friendship that time and distance made no difference and Pete, always so gracious made us feel worthy.
Pete lived his life with such integrity, loyalty, compassion, humility and ingenuity that it will be a rare day when these qualities and characteristics are ever matched.
We know it’s difficult now, but we also know that everyone of us that were part of Pete’s world will look back at an amazing life and fondly remember a “one-of-a-kind”.

I am sorry to hear of Peter's passing. He was a great guy who would help you out at the drop of a hat. I called Peter seven years ago (having not seen him since shortly after high school) and said I was moving back to Kelowna and asked if he knew of a place that I could store my motorcycles until I moved back into my house. He immediately offered room (not easy with all his bikes!) in a seacan that he had and insisted that I put my bikes in there. Over the past few years I have run into many people in the Okanagan and Fraser Valley that knew Peter through his volunteer efforts with the local dirt bike and snowmobile clubs. His love of the outdoors and adventure has rubbed off on his kids as he proudly shared a story of his son Shaun heading south on his motorcycle and continuing until he hit the south end of South America, turning around and eventually making his way home! When I asked Peter why Jan and him were moving back to Calgary a few years ago, he stated that they both wanted to be closer to their grandkids. That is clearly reflected in the memorial the family has posted. My sincere condolences to Jan and her family. Peter will be missed by many.
Very sorry to hear about your loss of Peter. We both worked at Bowes Publishers for a time. At one of the Publishers meetings, I remember chatting with him about my grandfathers friendship with Gordon Woolsey while we enjoyed a few sociables. Our conversation jumped down a few rabbit holes from there and suffice it to say the night got away from us and continued on for a long time. A great memory for sure.
May all of his family and friends find solace in your great memories that Pete helped create with you.

The Purdy family sends warmest regards and condolencecs to the Woolsey Family. Palm Springs will never be the same without Pete and his wonderful family.. Jan and Pete were neighbors of ours and became great friends. We bonded right away. How lucky were we to have "our favorite Canadians" living next to us. My extende family on the Coast felt the same way - everytme they came out to the desert from Newport Beach they "wanted to see the Canadians!!"
Pete was simply a remarkably..talented and amazing human being in so many ways, and such an incredible gentleman. What a couple -Jan and Pete!
Giant hugs from Bruce, Barrett, Court and Kathy
So many great adventures and with that great memories with this great man. When you joined Peter for a outing in the outdoors you knew it was going to be a great day rain or shine. One of many adventures that stand out was the MC trip in the Baja we shared, I’m still in ah how we every found our way thru some of the areas as at the end of the day I would hear Pete say that was fun I never been on that trail before, with me ridding behind thinking he knew the way. Pete told me it’s not the trail you need to pay attention to but more the direction your going. With that new wisdom in mind To this day I try hard never to ride the same trail twice to get to a destination. Pete donated many many hours to the local ridding clubs (Dirt Bike as well Kelowna Snowmobile club) never asking for anything in return but knowing Peter he seem to be at peace wither grooming the trails or camping at bear creek with his trailer full, of vintage bikes enjoying the simple life. My friend you will be missed but never forgotten and I’ll keep enjoying life to the fullest knowing that a great man told me that in one of our many shop chats. Rest well my friend
We are all shocked and saddened to here of your loss. Peter was an outstanding man. What he did for the dirt bike community in Kelowna while he and Jan lived here cannot be measured. He was a great friend. Barely new him and when we moved our shop he was the first to volunteer with the move. A rock of a man. I will always remember his smile and his laughter when I would do something stupid on my bike. We will miss you man. Roost in Peace.
We too are saddened to hear of Pete’s passing. For the short time you were our next door neighbours, Pete’s outdoor enthusiasm radiated to all the neighbours on our street and alley. He was blessed to be able to enjoy his children and grandchildren and has left them with lasting memories. Our sincere and warmest condolences to all of you. Pam and Earl Lacey
Absolutely heartbreaking news. I had the incredible pleasure of knowing Peter and Jan in the early days of Bowes Publishing/Florida Sun days. What an honor it was to get to become good friends with him and family. He even had the patience to take this Florida Hillbilly up in the Canadian Rockies for dirt biking and snowmobiling…courage was just one of his many incredible attributes. Greatest adventures of my life. Truly a great loss for family, friends and the GWN itself.

I met Peter only one year ago and I was immediately impressed by his calm, wise demeanor and his great sense of humor. Besides that, Peter maintained his physical health and was an excellent motorcycle rider. Peter shared his personal and tough journey through cancer and affirmed that he was very thankful that he lived a life full of family experience and adventure. He lived his life to the fullest and made me aware that life is precious and we don’t know what our future holds. I am a better person for having met Peter. I can only hope that I approach the end of my life someday with the same courage and resolve as Peter did.
My condolences to the Woolsey family.
Rest in peace, my friend

So sorry to hear of Peter's passing. He was the Publisher of the Daily Herald Tribune when I replaced Pat O. as the Office Manager in Grande Prairie but I first knew him when he was Publisher in Sherwood Park. Lots of fond memories. My condolences to Jan and his family.
So saddened to hear of Peter’s passing. Sending thoughts, prayers and sympathies to Jan, Carly, Cody, Shaun and their families. Peter hired me at the DHT and started my advertising career for the past 30 years. Very fond thoughts of work and fun, he was always smiling and living life to the fullest♥️
I was fortunate enough to be associated with Pete at Bowes Publishers for many years. Because of that association, over the years, we became good friends and had many good times together. Pete was a special individual. One who was comfortable in business and one who enjoyed the great outdoors to the limit. He lived every day with zest and enthusiasm. He was a true champion in business as well as with his family. I don't know anyone who lived a fuller life than Pete. God Bless you Pete. You will be missed.
My sincere sympathy goes out to Jan and family.

I remember Pete at Oakridge High School for his positive, outgoing and fun-loving nature. He was a ray of sunshine.
My sincerest condolences to you, Jan and all of your family.

I will fondly remember the Halloween costumes and all the times Jan came to the office with Birthday surprises from the kids, his face would light up. My condolences to Jan and all Peter’s family
Our sincere condolences. May his loving, cheerful spirit carry you through these tough times .
Jan, my condolences to you and the kids. I’m sure you all know this well but Pete’s life touched and improved the lives of countless other people - myself included. As as my outbound counselor Pete enabled me to have an experience that has shaped who I am and everything I’ve done. His investment of time, support and encouragement set me on a good path and I am eternally grateful.
Omg I am so sorry to Jan and the whole family! I have so many great memories of Peter at the DHT. He loved to scare me coming out of the dark room, but I always came out with my knee up and swinging, he started to protect his privates. R.I.P. Peter My heart is broken.
