Obituary of Wayne Stanley Brown

October 12, 1952 – Dawson Creek, British Columbia

January 31, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Wayne Brown beloved husband of Judy Brown (nee Voakes) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the age of 71 years.

Wayne was born in Dawson Creek, BC on October 12, 1952. He grew up in the small farming community of Rose Prairie, north of Fort St. John, BC, where he learned from his parents the value of working hard. This quality was evident throughout his life. Wayne’s dad taught him to hunt, fish and drive a tractor. He often said his father was his best friend and loved to share his fondest memories of that time.

He enjoyed being out in the bush tracking moose or next to the water fishing. He believed there was nothing better than sleeping under the stars with the rustle of the wind blowing through the trees.

Growing up in Northern BC, drew him to a career in oil and gas. He began his career working in the oilfield in Wonowon, BC. He loved his job even though at first it involved long hours and dirty labour, he learned quickly, making sure the job was done correctly and thoroughly. That would be his standard throughout his life.

Wayne lived and worked in Northern BC, Grande Prairie, and eventually called Calgary his home. He worked his way up through the industry to become Production Manager and most recently as a consultant General Manager for Insignia Energy Ltd. Wayne was passionate about his career and loved being a mentor and advisor.

He touched so many people throughout his professional and personal life. Wayne’s dearest love was for his family, friends, and his four-legged friend Whiski. He was happiest sharing stories, and he was famous for his jokes and one-liners; he loved to make people laugh. He believed in honesty, fairness, and loyalty. Wayne could be strong-willed and not one to hold back on his opinions, but his compassion, sensitivity and kind heart always drew people to him. Those who knew him best felt his warmth and abundant generosity.

Wayne will be most remembered for his sharp sense of humour, storytelling, and generous heart.

Besides his loving wife Judy, Wayne is survived by his son Delton Brown, of Airdrie, AB, and adopted son Kailund Brown, of Edmonton, AB, his loving sister Lois Airhart, of Vegreville, AB, his nephew Nathan Airhart (Sherry), of Pigeon Lake, AB, and his niece Erin Tapper (Richard), of Lavoy, AB. He is remembered by great-nephews, grandsons, cousins, and friends throughout Alberta and BC. Judy’s children, Cassandra Waren (Devin), and Shane Brazer and in-laws, Pat and Gary Voakes and family.

Wayne was predeceased by his mother Rita Brown (Eichhorn), his father George Harvey Brown, of Vegreville, AB, and his brother Garry Brown, of Fort. St. John, BC.
