Obituary of Margaret Jean Hansen

July 27, 1935 – Calgary, Alberta

February 1, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Margaret Jean (Peggy) Hansen (nee McGregor), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the age of 88 years. It was a life well lived!

Peggy was one of those rare breeds who was born and raised in Calgary, AB. Her parents, Jean and Allister McGregor provided a loving home for Peggy and her two younger sisters, Patricia (Paddy) and Linda.

It was meant to be when Peggy met the love of her life, Stanley (Stan) Hansen, at a dance at the Goldenrod Hall outside of Airdrie, AB. They were immediately enchanted with each other. According to Peggy, Stan’s piercing blue eyes and commanding presence won her over! Peggy’s outgoing and talkative nature proved the perfect complement to a shy and reserved Stan. They were a beautiful couple! Peggy and Stan married a couple of years later in 1954. Their daughters Debbie and Vicki soon followed. Peggy and Stan were married for 46 years until Stan’s untimely death at the age of 70 in 2000.

Peggy was a vibrant and vivacious woman who lit up every room she entered. In the spirit of volunteerism, Peggy was a proud working member of the IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire) for over twenty years.

Peggy’s proudest legacy was her family. Peggy delighted in extolling the accomplishments of both of her daughters and their respective families.

Peggy will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Debbie Ferguson (Roger) and Vicki McLaughlin (Joe); treasured grandchildren, Graham Ferguson (Susan), Mitch Ferguson (Kim), Brandy Mitschke (Rory), Kelsey Malcolm (Tyler), and Connor McLaughlin; and special Ferguson great-grandchildren, Rhett, Taya, Carter, Nolan, and Austan. Peggy is also survived by her dear sister Patricia (Paddy) Johnsen, sister-in-law Lillian Fletcher, and brothers-in-law, Torry Fletcher and Malcolm Campbell.

In addition to her beloved Stan, Peggy is predeceased by her sister Linda Campbell, and brother-in-law Dan Johnsen. Peggy’s family will always treasure the moments shared and love given.

The family would like to thank all the amazing staff members at Sage Hill Retirement, and Bow View Manor for their excellent care of Peggy.

There will not be a formal Memorial Service. The family asks that you raise a glass to toast Peggy’s memory! Peggy will be laid to rest with her beloved Stan at the family farm in Airdrie, AB.
