Obituary of Ellie Wegener

Ellie Wegener was born on March 5, 1926, at the Cardston Hospital in Cardston, AB. She peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in Strathmore, AB, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born and raised on a farm in Jefferson, AB, Ellie developed a deep connection to the land and a strong work ethic. At the age of seventeen, she ventured beyond the farm, relocating to Calgary, AB. It was where she met the love of her life, Norman Wegener, and on June 5, 1954, they exchanged vows, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that spanned 50 years.

Ellie dedicated 30 years of her life to the Royal Bank, where her commitment and hard work were evident to all who knew her. Her colleagues and clients alike benefited from her warm demeanor and unwavering professionalism.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Wheatland Lodge, the staff at the Strathmore and District Hospital and the staff at WADEMSA for the care given to Mom.

As we bid farewell to Ellie, let us remember the laughter, the love, and the indomitable spirit that she shared with us all. May she find eternal peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire us in the years to come.

Ellie is survived by her two loving sons, Richard (Vicky) and Terry (Nancy); her grandchildren, Scott, Jacqueline (Scott Garnett), Jessica, and Cody; and her great-grandson Oliver Garnett. Oliver brought immense joy and fulfillment to her life.

Ellie was predeceased by her beloved parents, William and Nell Dawson, her devoted husband of 50 years, Norman, and her brothers Bill and Keith Dawson. Her memory will forever be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Ellie’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
