Obituary of Doug Giddings

February 4, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Douglas “Doug” Giddings, beloved husband of Claudette Giddings (nee Parisien), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the age of 61 years.

 

Doug was born in Bracebridge, ON, on November 24, 1962. He moved to Baden, ON, in 1976. He attended Bracebridge Muskoka Lakes Secondary School in Bracebridge up to grade eleven, and then transferred to Waterloo Oxford District Secondary School in Baden, ON, to complete grade twelve.

 

He moved to Calgary, AB, in the summer of 1994 to start a life with Claudette and their children. Doug married Claudette in the year 2000.

 

Doug enjoyed hunting, camping, cooking with his smoker, and spending time with his two best friends, Sadie and Paco.

 

Doug’s favorite memories were when he and Claudette bought the trailer and buggy in 2016 and spent the next three years camping at various times.

 

He will be most remembered for his love of the outdoors, his many meals made with his smoker, and his love for his family.

 

Besides his loving wife Claudette, Doug is survived by his children, Bobby of Winnipeg, MB, Courtney and Maegan of Calgary, AB; Corey (Jessica) of Irricana, AB, and Michelle (Rob) of Calgary, AB; his grandchildren, Natasha (Darren) of God’s Lake Narrows, MB, Gabriel, Ethan, Makenna, Jaelyn, and Tru of Winnipeg, MB, Cameron of Calgary, AB, Simon, Sebastian, and Brady of Calgary, AB, Katie and Eli of Irricana, AB, and Shayla of Drayton Valley, AB, Rylee, Charlette, and Bodhi of Calgary, AB; as well as his great-grandchildren, Violet, Katana, and Gabriel of God's Lake Narrows, MB.

 

Doug is also survived by his brothers, Rob (Gerda) of Brockville, ON, Alan (Trish) of Sebringville, ON, and Wayne (Linda) of Cambridge, ON; his sisters, Janice and Sandy of Parry Sound, ON, and Sharon and Lynn (Terry) of Bracebridge, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Doug was predeceased by his mother Shirley Giddings on September 20, 2009, and his father Robert Giddings on October 30, 2020.

 

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

 

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Giddings’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
