Condolences
I'm having a hard time believing that Duncan has 'shuffled off this mortal coil'. He was a man larger than life and full of compassion, understanding, brilliance and good humour. I value the years that I worked for him at the Lethbridge Public Library in the 1980s. Lethbridge Public Library was the most positive and loving atmosphere I have ever had the privilege to be associated with, mainly because of Duncan's phenomenal leadership. Even when we didn't always agree, he always listened and was respective of my opinions. The world is a smaller place because of Duncan's passing. I pray that Nancy and the whole family will find comfort in the knowledge that he has gone on to a greater reward. I'm sure that God has already said to him: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." My heart goes out to Nancy and the whole family and his many close friends as they grieve the loss of this exceptional man.
Sincere condolences to Nancy and family.
I was hired by Chief Librarian, Duncan Rand more than 30 years ago. This is both a sad and happy time for a group of us who remember Duncan as the best "chief" ever. Not only did he have a wonderful understanding of the Lethbridge community but also of his library staff. As an original member of the Definitely Not Plato Book Club which began with Duncan's confident approval it remains as one of the library's most successful programs some thirty years later.
My heartfelt condolences to Nancy and the Rand family. Duncan was a great neighbour and friend and I always enjoyed our chats about the current books we were reading and holidays in Fairmont. He was always gracious and had a wonderful sense of humour. We will miss him in our lives.
Duncan and I joined the Lethbridge Public Library in the same year, I as his assistant. He came in and declared that the goal was to make the Library "the hottest spot in town". It was a privilege and a joy to be part of that dynamic process, and it was fun. My sincere condolences to the family.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to Nancy and family. Duncan was so kind, classy and knowledgeable and always took time to chat. He will be missed.

Duncan was a "One of Kind Man" with integrity, & authority, loads of Kindness and Love to go around. His laughter was contagious, you could always count on Mr. Rand having a joke or two for you. Duncan was a wealth of knowledge no matter what the subject was, also a very intelligent man. I could ask him anything and he would have a perfect answer.
As my best friend Tom his son. I was always welcomed in there home just like one of the family. Duncan and the Rand family have made a positive lifetime impact on my life.
Here is to a gentleman of which his impact and influence is vast and spans decades. For the people to numerous to count of the lives he has touched!
Truly my Heart and prayers are for you in this difficult time of loss.

To the Rand Clan;
I have such fond memories of Duncan from my university days. He was one of those people who truly listened when people spoke to him. Being 'heard' shows such respect. I'm sorry for the loss you are all feeling now and will feel for some time. He was a fantastic human.
