Obituary of John Lawson

May 28, 1931 - Calgary, Alberta

February 5, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

John ‘Jack’ Lawson, beloved husband of Betty Lawson (nee Williams), passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the age of 92.

Jack was born in Calgary, AB on May 28, 1931. He spent 28 years as a dedicated member of the RCMP. His final posting was head of security at the Calgary International Airport. After he retired from the RCMP, he worked as an accident prevention officer with the City of Calgary.

Jack was proud to have participated in two musical rides with the RCMP along Canada's and USA's Eastern seaboard, as well as in the United Kingdom. His fondest memory of that time was having his horse, Lucky, eat the button from the Queen’s Lady in Waiting.

He enjoyed being part of the Harmonicas Tableau that entertained seniors in local nursing homes for over 20 years. His outgoing personality brought joy to so many. Jack's passion for art led him to create beautiful pieces of jewelry, doing lapidary as he was taught by his father-in-law. He was also a very talented woodworker. He crafted so many beautiful pieces of furniture that are being enjoyed by many.

Jack and Betty spent winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, where they met many good friends. His greatest gift was the love he had for his family. He was always there to support and help whenever it was needed.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty, of 65 years, son John (Kim) of St. John’s, NL, daughter Lori of Calgary, AB, and grandchildren, Olivia, Sophie, and Elizabeth.

Jack will be most remembered for his love of family and his dedication to serving his community. His memory will always be cherished by those who knew him.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Father Lacombe Care Centre, especially Dalvis Smith, for the care and support shown to Jack.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with John’s family here.
