Obituary of Arthur (Art) Kong Fong 鄺堯鑄

June 14, 1937 – Hoi Ping, China

February 6, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Arthur “Art” Fong, the beloved husband of Lisa Fong (Tam So Ying) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the age of 86 years.

Art was born in Hoiping, China, on June 14, 1937. Art's journey was one marked by resilience and unwavering determination.

At the tender age of four, Art faced the loss of his father, leaving him and his mother to navigate life's challenges together. In pursuit of a brighter future, they embarked on a journey to Canada in 1962, where Art embraced the opportunity to build a new life. Despite the obstacles, he pursued employment as a cook by day while diligently studying English by night.

In 1969, Art went to Hong Kong, where he fell in love and found companionship with his beloved wife, Lisa. Together, they ventured to Calgary, AB, to lay the foundation for their family's future. Art's relentless work ethic and the unwavering support of his devoted wife culminated in establishing their own small business – a testament to their shared sacrifices and determination. Over three decades, they nurtured this venture into a thriving family business, a source of pride and accomplishment for them both.

Art's dedication knew no bounds as he labored tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. His greatest achievement came in the form of a well-deserved retirement at 65, affording him precious time to enjoy life's simple pleasures alongside his cherished family.

In his leisure, Art found peace in activities that nourished his spirit. He found joy in simple pleasures, whether swimming, running, or tending to his beloved garden. His passion for gardening, particularly, served as a deep connection to his roots, allowing him to cultivate memories of his homeland by cultivating Chinese vegetables.

Amongst the cherished moments of his life, none shone brighter than the unforgettable family vacation of 2011 – a cruise through the Western Caribbean aboard the Allure of the Seas. Surrounded by the love of his wife, children, and grandchildren, Art reveled in the beauty of togetherness and the joy of shared experiences.

Above all, Art will be remembered for his boundless generosity and selfless nature – a beacon of kindness and warmth to all who knew him. Though he may have departed this world, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched along his remarkable journey.

Besides his loving wife, Art is survived by his beloved daughter, Lily, whose presence in Calgary, AB, serves as a testament to the enduring bonds of family that Art held dear. Alongside Lily, Art's legacy is enriched by the steadfast presence of his three sons, David, Johnny, and Benny, along with their cherished spouses, Shizu, Alana, and Sherry, who reside in Calgary, AB.

Art's devotion to family is mirrored in the joyful laughter and boundless energy of his nine grandchildren: Isaac, Isabella, Vincent, Ethan, Sebastian, Liam, Oliver, Colton, and Ellie – all of whom find comfort and strength in their shared memories of their beloved grandfather.

As they navigate this time of loss and remembrance, may Art's family find comfort in the enduring affection that binds them together, creating a timeless connection that will always unite them, both in the present and in the future.
