Obituary of Craig Johnson
April 10, 1971 – Calgary, Alberta
February 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Craig Johnson, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, after being diagnosed on Tuesday that same week, with metastasised lung cancer.
Craig was a born and raised Calgarian, living in Calgary his whole life. He completed his education at Jack James Secondary School in 1988. He worked at various jobs until he was hired by MI Petroleum, where he spent the last twenty or so years. He was dedicated to his job and took great pride in keeping his work truck clean and organized. Paperwork was also always handed in on time! He loved it when they would say “Can you go to Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories?”; his answer was always an immediate “yes”. For a long time, he would not take vacations; he would rather work.
Craig met Sonya in August 2008. They moved in together in October 2008 and life changed for the both of them. Vacations were planned and taken, the basement was renovated, yard landscaped, and the fence and deck built.
Craig greatly enjoyed cooking and making meals for family gatherings at the house. He had perfected barbequing and the smoking of a beef brisket. He loved playing bingo with his mom, travelling, and has been on many beach vacations and trips down to Las Vegas. Craig loved his 80s and 90s rock bands—Poison being his favourite.
He was a devoted Calgary Stampeders and Flames fan, enjoying holding season tickets for the Stampeders for many years. He enjoyed golfing, even getting the elusive “hole-in-one” that all golfers strive for. Keeping the yard clean and tidy was something else he enjoyed in both summer and winter.
Craig’s most memorable vacation was his first beach vacation in the Dominican Republic for his friend’s wedding. The guys had a full-day fishing excursion planned, but it took an abrupt turn once they got out to the rough open water. It was a trip they will never forget!
Craig is survived by his person Sonya Bouvier, son Tyler Johnson, mother Ronda Johnson, sister Cindy Johnson (Ken), and their children, Evan and Jenna; and brother Glenn Johnson (Faye) and their son, Simon. Craig was predeceased by his father Robin Johnson.
A Celebration of Craig’s Life will be announced at a later date.
