Obituary of Lorne Edwin Carlson

January 17, 1939 – Edmonton, Alberta

February 10, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Lorne Edwin Carlson, beloved husband of Shirley Ann Carlson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 85 years.

 

Born in Edmonton, AB, on January 17, 1939, Lorne was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eskil Carlson. He graduated from Ridley College in Ontario and went on to receive a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Alberta and a PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of Toronto. The family then travelled to England and Australia for several years, where he further studied nuclear physics in Oxford and Canberra.

 

During his career, Lorne worked as a dedicated Pipeline Engineer for companies including Foothills Pipelines and Alliance Pipelines in Calgary. In his free time, Lorne enjoyed square dancing and skiing with his family. He also had a passion for traveling and enjoyed memorable vacations with Shirley, especially on their many cruises around North and South America during retirement.

 

Lorne will be deeply missed by his daughter Joan Marie Nocente (Dean), daughter Linda Ellen (Joal Borggard), and son Robert John. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, Andrew, Melina, Eric, Pamela, Timothy, Sarah, Angela, Graeme, Nova, and Varden; and four great-grandchildren.

 

Lorne will be remembered for his kindness, patience, and support as a father and husband, and his dedication to his career. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the people, groups, and institutions who have supported them during this difficult time.

 

No public service will be held for Lorne, but condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with his family here.
