Obituary of Kathleen Louise Clark
February 1, 1929 - Calgary, Alberta
February 12, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
With great sadness and much tenderness, the family of Katie Clark (née Jones) announces her passing. She was recently predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Jim Clark, and is survived by her children Bob (Claire) Clark, Edward Clark, and Morey (Ken) Lucas; her five grandchildren Sandy Clark (Lauren Wies), Peter Clark (Megan Kheong), Gillian Clark (Fortunat Nadima), Jeffrey Lucas, and Elizabeth Lucas (Brian Pendergast); and her two great-grandchildren Lachlan Clark and Ava Clark.
Katie was born to Emily Vesey Jones (née Dawson) and Victor Robert Jones in Calgary, where she lived all her life. She attended Central High School, participated in the Sat-Teen Club, the Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority, and was a Miss Canada volunteer, a group that raised funds for the war effort. She met her husband-to-be while studying trigonometry at night school. They were married in Banff, AB, in 1950.
Katie loved singing, especially its social aspect. Large family gatherings were often concluded around the piano. She was a member of the church choir at St. Philip the Evangelist Church and sang in musical productions with Windmill Theatre Players in High River. She was involved in many social clubs, charitable associations, and worthwhile projects, including the Cosmopolitan Club, the Allied Arts Association, and the Kidney Foundation. At one point, she even served as a chaperone for the Stampede Princesses. In later years, she took particular delight in teaching English as a second language to young people at Connaught School and also volunteered at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital. She loved to study French and did so with the Alliance Française of Calgary.
More than anything, she loved to host. Family parties, dinner parties, and welcoming friends from abroad were consistent pleasures for her. Katie and Jim spent time every summer since 1962 in Sylvan Lake, AB. During winter, they frequently visited Panorama to ski with family and friends. They also travelled the world extensively. Adventurously, they sailed the Adriatic, studied in Mexico, and went to distant locations such as Egypt, Australia, and New Zealand. They made frequent visits to the United Kingdom and travelled most widely in Canada, visiting every province and territory.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Chartwell Eau Claire, who worked tirelessly to provide Katie with the special care and attention that she so richly deserved.
