February 16, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Lyle Easton Webb of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 85 years.

Lyle was born in Onion Lake, AB, on December 15, 1938, on the family homestead. He was the fourth child of Iola and Elton Webb. As the middle children of eight, he and his sister, Ardene, were particularly close and stuck together at home and at school. Life was not always easy on the homestead, but there were many fond memories. Anyone who knew Lyle knew how much he loved to dance. Lyle and Ardene spent hours practicing and going dancing together.

He moved to Calgary, AB, in 1959, where he ended up pursuing a career in motor mechanics. It was there he met the love of his life and new dance partner, Dorothy Kramer. They married in 1963, and wasting no time, added their son, Allan, to the family within a year.

Lyle was a loving and attentive husband and father. He loved to go on road trips with the family. Summer vacations usually had him driving the family west into the heart of the mountains. A favourite destination was Fairmont Hot Springs where they stayed at the onsite campground. For the first few years, it was a true camping experience in a tent braving the weather, along with the occasional bear encounter. After a few years, Lyle found a small Boler trailer, perfect for a family of three. It offered much better protection from the elements, and the bears!

Not only an adept automotive technician, but he was also an excellent handyman. He built fences, he built decks, and he even built his own garage from scratch. When the roof needed new shingles, he did it himself, and was handy with any repair needed around the house.

Lyle was active throughout his life and enjoyed participating in sports. He was a member of various curling and bowling leagues and played softball as part of the McKay Pontiac Buick team. He was most passionate about golf and played in a league for about 30 years, where he achieved a very respectable handicap. His proudest moments were the few times that he broke 80.

Lyle was also an avid fan of sports, particularly when it came to the Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Flames. He held seasons tickets to the Stampeders for many years and had the opportunity to share in seasons tickets to the Flames.

His love for family was just as strong for his extended family. He looked forward to every July, spending the weekend with them at the annual Webb family reunion. After 2017, having helped organize the event for many years, Lyle had to step down and pass forward the organizing to other members of the family. Due to the pandemic and subsequent health issues, 2019 would be his final year at the reunion.

Lyle is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, son Allan (Mitra); grandson Daniel; step grandchildren, Mahla (Sina), and Mahnam (Nasim); great-grandchildren, Aria, Kairo, and Milan; brother-in-law John (Amy); sister-in-Law Jeannie (Donald); and many, many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Lyle was predeceased by his siblings, Barbara, Rodney, Irma, Ardene, Curt, Ada, and Luana; sister-in-law Jean; and brother-in-law Donald.
