February 16, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Dorothy Helen Stewart, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 93 years. She was born in Stettler, AB, raised on a farm in Red Willow, AB, and later moved to Edmonton, AB.

She trained and worked as an X-Ray Technician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the early 1950s. She loved working with people, and really enjoyed her position as a unit clerk at the Burnaby General Hospital, Foothills Medical Center, and later in retirement, she also volunteered at the Children’s Hospital gift shop.

In 1953, she met the love of her life and soulmate, John. For the next 65 years, they enjoyed many adventures together, from flower photography to travel trailering. They raised four children and instilled in them a lifelong love of learning, music, sporting activities, and the great outdoors.

Dorothy was passionate about many sports, including skating, cross country skiing, golf, curling, hiking, and biking. She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and truly valued the companionship of all her sorority sisters. Attending family reunions and annual weekends away with her best girlfriends were very important events in Dorothy’s life.

Dorothy and John loved to entertain friends and family with fabulous, barbecued meals accompanied by a glass of wine or two. Grandma Dorothy always had cookies in the cookie jar, and a cup of tea at the ready. She had a green thumb and always had a beautiful garden and the ability to doctor any ailing houseplants.

Dorothy cherished her family, and nothing brought a smile to her face quicker than seeing her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the furry granddogs!

She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, Bruce (Kathleen), Laurie (Patrick), Barb (Scott), James (Marile); five grandchildren, Jesse (Lindsay), Carley (Cameron), Reinier (Lia), Tara (Ian), and Kelsey (Dallen); and her eight great-grandchildren, Sean, Isaac, Cordelia, Olivia, Theodore, Anele, Haylen, and Ethan.
