Obituary of Charles William Hayes
November 9, 1939 – Spalding, Saskatchewan
February 16, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Charles “Charlie” Hayes, beloved husband of Lillian “Lianne” Hayes (nee Ditto), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 84 years.
Charlie was born in Spalding, SK, on November 9, 1939. He spent most of his adult life in Calgary, AB, before retiring to his dream city of Kelowna, BC, in 1998 with Lianne. They later returned to Calgary to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Charlie graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology to begin his career as a Draftsman in the oil and gas industry, leading him to meet Lianne as she pursued the same career. Charlie married Lianne on October 11, 1969.
He was an avid golfer, pool player, and hockey fan. Charlie accomplished much throughout his life, and was particularly proud of his family, and the lifestyle his hard work was able to provide, including summer vacations, and Christmas at the heart of everything. He will be most remembered for his kindness, his ability to remember every moment of every hockey game (especially which Flames players had played well enough that he was willing to keep them on the team), and his sense of humor. He always had a dad joke ready to go.
Besides his loving wife Lianne, Charlie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Craig Comeau, son and daughter-in-law, Clay, and Susan Hayes, all of Calgary, AB; five grandchildren, MJ Hayes (Justin Myles) of Lethbridge, AB, Madison Farraj (Rabih) of Edmonton, AB, Joshua Beaudoin of Calgary, AB, Olivia Hayes of Calgary, AB, and Emily Hayes of Calgary, AB.
Charlie is also survived by his sister, Joan Richards (predeceased Lyle Richards) of Edmonton, AB, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving parents Wilfred James Hayes and Evelyn Frances Hayes, as well as his older brother, Larry.
