Obituary of Norm Friesz
April 21, 1949 – Medicine Hat, Alberta
February 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Norm Friesz, beloved father, and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the age of 74 years, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away peacefully at Agapé Hospice in Calgary, AB.
Norm was born in Medicine Hat, AB to Arthur and Lea Friesz, and grew up on the family farm in Golden Prairie, SK. Norm married Norma on July 28, 1972, and raised their three children in Calgary. He enjoyed playing fastball and bowling in his younger years. And continued curling and golfing in his golden years.
Norm was a sports fan who enjoyed watching curling and golf and was a committed fan of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports, baseball, hockey, curling, and basketball.
His four grandsons and two granddaughters were priceless to him.
Norm is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lana and Craig Stewart, and Amber and Greg Abbott; son and daughter-in-law, Rhett and Chelsea Friesz; and six grandchildren, Garrett, Ewan, Bram, Griffin, Ainslee, and Aria. Norm was predeceased by his loving wife Norma in 2009.
A Celebration of Norm’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
