Obituary of Lacie Jane Aberdeen
February 28, 1986 – Bassano, Alberta
February 2, 2024 – Morley, Alberta
It is with profound sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our loved one, Lacie Aberdeen (nee Medicine Shield), who was called home by our Creator on Wednesday, February 2, 2024, at the age of 37 years. Lacie left us to be with her mother Theresa and sister Sasha, whom she dearly and deeply missed.
Lacie received her education and graduated from her high school in Bassano. She later graduated from SAIT with a Tourism and Hospitality Diploma.
Lacie was from the Siksika Nation but shared her life with her loving companion Bryan for 21 years in Morley. She will be remembered for her loving and quiet demeanour; she was humble, caring, and respectful. While she resided in Morley, she held various employment positions with the Chiniki Restaurant, KFC in Cochrane, Woody’s RV in Springbank, Stoney Pharmacy, Stoney Income Support, and housekeeping in Canmore.
She mainly enjoyed travelling the rodeo trail with her companion throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the United States.
Her hobbies were playing golf, drawing, and reading. She also enjoyed having pets. Her favourite pet was a basset hound named “Eddie”, and several cats, but her favourite was one she called “Susie”.
She also enjoyed watching and cheering on Bryan and Tracy play baseball in Alberta and British Columbia. She also favored her travels with her sister-in-law to concerts in Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary, her favourite artist being Beyoncé.
The highlight of her life was her engagement, soon-to-be married, and she was happily looking forward to the big day.
Lacie leaves behind to mourn, her companion Bryan, her culturally adopted parents Joe and Evangeline Leather; nephews, Julian and McKennon; niece Theresa, sisters, Rowena (Jerrot) and Laura (Gerald); her brothers, David and Shawn; Uncle Floyd, Aunties Yvonne (Rufus), Sandra (Patrick), and Patsy; her in-laws from Morley, the LaBelle and Poucette families; and her Aberdeen family from the Kainai Nation. She is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews from her extended families of Medicine Shield, Aberdeen, Bull Bear, Solway, Leather, and Good Eagle. We apologize if we have missed anyone.
Lacie was predeceased by her mother Theresa and sister Sasha Medicine Shield, twins Terri and Frankie, maternal grandparents Harrison and Jane Bull Bear, her paternal grandparents Philip and Daisy Aberdeen, brothers Terry and Frankie Medicine Shield, sister Emily Lou English, and cousin Troy Aberdeen.
Wake Services will be held at the residence of Bruce LaBelle (Mînî Thnî, AB) on Monday, February 26, 2024, and at the residence of Joe and Evangline Leather on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika, AB) on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Little Washington Cemetery (Siksika, AB).
