February 5, 1932 – Ferintosh, Alberta
February 22, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta
Honor Archibald, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in her home in Cochrane, AB, at the age of 92 years.
Honor was born in Ferintosh, AB, on February 5, 1932, the second youngest of five children born to Mabel and Alfred Olson. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Malmo district, completing grade eleven at the Baptist Bible College in Three Hills, AB.
Honor’s first full-time job took her to Edmonton, where she was employed by the Alberta Government. Little did she know how much of an influence this would have on the rest of her life. She developed a friendship with a young woman, Josie Saville, in her office who introduced Honor to her cousin, John Archibald.
On June 5, 1951, Honor was united in marriage to John Archibald in Winnipeg, MB. John was in the military which resulted in their moving to the Netherlands, as well as various locations across Canada. In 1972, John retired from the military, and he and Honor went farming in the Westerose area. It wasn’t long before Honor went back to work for the Alberta Government at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park. Honor worked for Provincial Parks for a number of years before finally retiring on the farm with John. When John passed away in 1992, Honor moved to Wetaskiwin for a few years, and after that she moved to Devon. For the last several years she made her home in Cochrane, AB.
Celebrating her memory are her children, Dale and his wife Arlyne of Stony Plain, Wendy Tribiger of Lacombe, Ken and his wife Lori of Dawson Creek, and Randy and his wife Tracy of Cochrane, eleven grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
Honor was predeceased by her husband John, her parents, Mabel and Alfred; sisters, Ethel Falk and Gladys Addison; brothers, Roy and Lloyd Olson; her son-in-law Martin Tribiger, and granddaughter Laura Collins.
