August 18, 1950 – Leader, Saskatchewan

February 22, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Clayton “Clay” Sept on Thursday, February 22, at the age of 73 years in Calgary, AB. Clayton was born on August 18, 1950, to Dorothy and Ray Sept in Leader, SK. Shortly after, the family moved to Wetaskiwin, AB, where he was raised with his five brothers and sisters.

As a heavy-duty technician by trade, Clayton loved his career and truly embodied a work horse mentality. He retired from Bobcat in 2016 but remained tirelessly engaged, whether building birdhouses and bee houses or just tinkering in the garage. He found immense joy in his hockey league, known as “the Cardiacs,” formerly “the Lushes,” and could be found weekly on the ice with his hockey buddies. In the summertime, he enjoyed golfing, fly fishing, and meticulously tending to his yard, often joking with friends and family that if there was a blade of grass too long, he’d be on his hands and knees trimming it. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he quickly turned neighbours into family members. For those who had the privilege of knowing him, Clayton’s bright blue eyes were the gateway to his extremely gentle soul.

Clayton is survived by his adored wife Brenda Sept, son Tyler (Kendra) Sept, granddaughters, Brooklyn Sept and Breanne Stoll (Ryan Blackmore), and great-grandchildren, Mason and Madison Blackmore.

Clayton and Brenda met in Wetaskiwin, AB, at the age of seventeen, moving to Calgary in 1973 to build a life together. In 2023, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, often spending their time golfing, entertaining friends, and family with themed dinner nights, caring for neighbourhood birds, or simply enjoying each other’s company while watching hockey games or relaxing in the backyard with a glass of wine or beer. They travelled together to their favourite destinations of Hawaii, Mexico, and Australia, relishing their retirement years. Recently, they fulfilled a bucket list trip to the PGA Waste Management Golf Tournament in Arizona.

Tyler, Clayton’s only son, was the light of his life. They shared many rounds of golf, engaging in friendly banter about who was the “better golfer” after each game. Throughout Tyler’s childhood, Clayton dedicated countless hours to coaching his hockey team and spending summers camping across the United States in their camper. They created cherished memories on trips with Brenda, Kendra and Brooklyn to Mexico, Maui, and Jamaica.

Clayton was a proud grandfather to Breanne Stoll, affectionately known as “Lupchook,” and his little “Mutz,” Brooklyn Sept. He always made sure to attend their dance recitals, gymnastics events, and hockey games. He was happy to have “his girls” as a part of his life.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Calgary first responders of Fire and EMS for the care and compassion they provided to Clayton and the Sept family.

Clayton will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters, along with his brother and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Ray; stepmother Mary, mother-in-law Hilda, father-in-law Erwin, brothers-in-law, Lonnie, Dale, and Randy; nephew Trevor, and niece Melissa.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
