Sean David Mackidd, a.k.a. “Maxwell Speed”, of Calgary, AB, died tragically in a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the age of 48 years.
Sean was born in Calgary, AB, in 1975. He lived most of his life in Calgary, with the exception of a few years when he was living in Grand Prairie, AB, and Prince George, BC.
From a very young age, Sean had a passion for motorcycles, particularly choppers. He bought his first chopper in his twenties and owned several throughout his life.
Sean always loved helping people. When the devastating wildfires happened in Fort Mac in 2016, he organized a clothing drive and took the donations directly to Fort McMurray to distribute. He was also a strong advocate for people experiencing homelessness. He didn’t have much, but anything he did have, he would offer it if it meant he could help someone else.
He will be most remembered as a dreamer who was always trying to think of the next big project he was going to work on. His final dream was to build a tiny-home community for the unhoused, and have the residents work together to maintain the community. Sadly, this is a dream that he was not able to turn into reality before he passed.
Sean is survived by his two daughters and one son. He is also survived by his mother Anne Mackidd, father David Mackidd (Janet), brother Stephen Mackidd (Kathleen), sister Krista Pardoe (Thom), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Mackidd’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service.
