February 25, 2024 - Cochrane, Alberta
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Donald (Don) Lamond on Sunday, February 25, 2024, in the wee hours of the morning, at the age of 93 years. Don’s daughter Sharon and his granddaughter Heather were by his side as he slipped away peacefully and gently.
Don is survived by the love of his life, Maureen. He and Maureen were looking ahead to their 70th wedding anniversary on May 29 of this year. He was loved and adored by his children, Sharon Chynoweth (Peter) of Cochrane, AB, and Robert Lamond (Valerie) of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. Don was a treasured Papa to his grandchildren, Stephen Christie (Crystal), Heather Black (Jeff), and Andrea D’Angelo (Isaac); and Great-Papa to his precious great-grandchildren, Tekerra, Lucas, and Jaxson Christie, and Kieran Black. Don is also survived by his nieces and nephew, and a host of cherished long-time friends.
Don was born and raised in Calgary and was a proud Calgarian. He was honest and kind. He loved his work in the oil patch (Rangeland Pipeline, Hudson Bay Oil and Gas, Dome/Amoco Petroleum, and Peace Pipeline). Don was a respected Cub and Boy Scout Leader for over thirty years with the 21st Scout Troop, and then at the regional and national levels. He lived by the Scout Promise – always. Don was a faith-filled man and a member of Wesley United Church and latterly of Knox Presbyterian Church. He had a wonderful sense of humour. He loved to sing and was a remarkable public speaker. Don was an avid reader of mysteries – especially Agatha Christie. He loved the opera, whistling, golfing, curling, table tennis, card games with Maureen in the evenings, games with friends and family, his Scottish roots, cross-stitching, camping, traveling with Maureen (especially to Maui), jumping on and off the Flames bandwagon, Nanaimo bars, Froot Loops, mac and cheese (with lots of ketchup), hot (really hot!) coffee, and a good cold Guinness, poured just so. His greatest joy was being by Maureen’s side in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, as their life together unfolded. He treasured watching his kids, grands, and great-grands grow, reveling in their accomplishments. He was so very proud of his family.
We know that his legacy will live on in all of us.
