Mary Louise (Marie) McMahon (nee Hoffman) passed away peacefully leaving her lifelong partner in life and love, Terry McMahon and her three daughters, Nancy, Jennifer (Kevin), and Megan (Richard), grandchildren (Nathan, Gabrielle, Hanna, Samantha, and Tyler) as well as nieces and nephews. Marie was proud of her roots in Eganville, Ontario and the Ottawa Valley. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Ivan and Mary and her two brothers Denton and Cecil.

After graduating from Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing in 1956 she moved to Toronto to pursue public health. With her public health diploma (University of Toronto, 1958) she moved to Calgary in 1963 where she practised as a public health nurse for more than 20 years. She had a remarkable career, including working with the first needle exchange program as part of the Calgary communicable disease unit.

Marie was passionate about the arts and giving back to the community. She enrolled in the University of Calgary fine arts program and tried her hand at painting, weaving and music. She was dedicated to the Samaritan Club, the Calgary Food Bank, Scarboro United Church, and many other charities.

Marie met her husband, Terry in her early days in Calgary and they married in Eganville in 1964. They raised three wonderful children and stayed active with all their favorite sports and pastimes including skiing, tennis, golf, and hiking. Marie particularly enjoyed her many years as a Ski Friend at Lake Louise, leading tourists on lesser-known trails and playing bridge with her friends year-round. She and Terry cycled with groups in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, and the United States. They enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with friends at their acreage in Millarville; their cottage in the Windermere Valley, and winter in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Marie’s kind and thoughtful nature, she found the best in others. She was loyal and kept her friends for life. If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to Samaritan Club of Calgary (samaritanclub.ca).

Marie's family invites friends to a celebration of her life on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Glencoe Club (636 29 Ave SW, Calgary, AB).
