The whole Engerdahl family has been so amazing to me..I remember playing Simpsons with Sadie and Josh while he overlooked us and shook his head at our madness, or the many times coming by because I locked myself out again. Thank you for being my neighbours down the ally. I still look to this day for Gil uploading his work truck in the back when I drive down the back...
Gil and I worked together over the last 40 some years. He was a hard working man and always upbeat and always dependable. RIP old Buddy.
Living next door to Gil for 43 years generates many memories and stories. Here was a man with every tool or the means to make a tool and the ability and time to fix anything. Car trouble, house trouble, yard trouble, he was there. But wait, we were never stuck in the snow, not with Gil and his bobcat clearing our street and alley. Our yard received excellent treatment with that bobcat too. We talked across the fence like in a neighbourly TV show. Gil asked about our family, their health and activities and kept us up to date with their family’s news. We both loved our raspberry patches and growing tomatoes. Gil always raved about the Governor Sauce that Faith would make with the tomatoes. We saw the time he spent getting the camper and boat ready for his much-anticipated fishing trips. Halloween would light up the Engerdahl’s home and youngsters would need to have a trick ready to get a treat. On a cold December night, our cul-de-sac would be jammed with cars bringing folks to the annual Lutefisk Dinner. Gil treasured these gatherings and loved to see his family. As health issues crept into Gil’s life, he still strived for independence, and it wasn’t a month ago that he was working to get the truck unstuck in the alley.
Let us keep our treasured memories of a happy, generous man and his life well lived, let us be thankful for Gil’s peaceful rest now, and let us take inspiration for being a good neighbour to those around us. Our deepest sympathy to the family as they mourn the loss of their dear Gil.
