Obituary of Ethel Marian Bank

August 9, 1938 – Wadena, Saskatchewan

March 1, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Ethel Bank (nee Ziola) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the age of 85 years.

 

Ethel grew up on a farm near Margo, SK. When she was nine years her family moved to Alberta to a farm near Sylvan Lake. She left the farm to attend high school in Red Deer, then she moved to Calgary to attend Henderson Business College. Her first job was for Precision Drilling as a secretary.

 

Ethel and Allan were married on August 22, 1959. Last August they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Over the years they were involved in The Alberta Pioneer Auto Club, a Square-Dancing club and Ethel was on a curling team for several years. Her passion was reading. In between all her various activities, if she wasn’t reading you knew she wasn’t well.

 

In 1979 Ethel started working for the Calgary School Board of Education as a secretary. She worked in several different schools, made many friends, and enjoyed lots of good times. She retired in 1996 after seventeen years.

 

Ethel and Allan went on many trips, Alaska, Tahiti, Jamaica, New Orleans, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Virgin Islands, and Hawaii. One of her favourite places was Las Vegas.

 

Besides her loving husband Allan, Ethel is survived by her daughter Carol Delisle, son Jeffrey Bank, and grandsons, Jason and Colin Delisle, all of Calgary.

 

Ethel is also survived by her brothers, Tom and Dale Ziola; sister Judy Edmonds, all of Red Deer, her nieces and a nephew, Jackie (Rick) Shoemaker and daughter Auria; Joanne Edmunds; Kim (Ron) Jones and children, Amy and Aidan; and Kevin (Roxy) Ziola and daughters, Josi and Cami. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Pauline Ziola; sister-in-law Ann Ziola, and brother-in-law John Edmunds.

 

A private family service will be held for Ethel, and she will be laid to rest at the Prairie Sky Cemetery (12350 – 84 Street SE, Calgary).
