Ian is also survived by his brother Alan Hutchins of Toronto, ON, sister Phyllis Peterson of Paris, ON, nieces and nephews Allison, Jennifer, and David, of ON, and Lori and Andrea, of ON.
Ian was born in Manchester, England February 16, 1937, to Herbert and Phyllis Hutchins. The family immigrated to Canada in 1951, at the age of fourteen. After finishing high school, he began his career at Bell. He met the love of his life, Gladys in 1960, and wed in 1963. In 1975, Ian and family moved to Calgary and explored new opportunities with AGT / Telus.
Ian enjoyed working for the communications company. He progressed through the company increasing his knowledge and expertise. Finally landing his final position before retiring as a manager of installation and repair. His strong work ethic, honesty, integrity, and always encouraging others made him very well respected. His greatest personal feeling of achievement was the successful completion of the 1988 Olympic winter games, for which he served as an assistant manager.
Ian loved his neighbourhood and neighbours. He took pride in improving his home and maintaining its appearance. He was always open and greeted any passerby with a smile and a chat. He enjoyed his walks along the Glenmore reservoir pathways, where he met many people that became good friends, and even celebrated each others' birthdays over a coffee. Other past times he enjoyed reading, listening to music, he enjoyed the mountains and the outdoors. Overall, he just loved everything about Alberta and never was there a day he regretted his move.
Ian was a wonderful husband, father and granddad, you will forever be missed and in our hearts.
