Obituary of Maryrose Tchida

September 27, 1938 – Mundare, Alberta

March 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Maryrose Tchida passed away at the age of 85 years on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Calgary, AB.

Maryrose will be deeply missed by her three children, her daughter Pamela Tchida Kupidy (formerly Novak), and her two sons, Tim Tchida and Don Tchida. She was also a proud grandmother to her four grandchildren, Jayda Novak, Riley Tchida, Jake Tchida, and Aiden Tchida, and will be missed by all. Maryrose was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Sophia Slobodian, her two brothers, Terry Slobodian and Jim Slobodian; and her grandparents, Sam and Julia Shelast, and Prokop and Anne Slobodian. She is survived by her two sisters, Karen Elliott and Linda Slobodian.

Born in Mundare, AB, on September 27, 1938, Maryrose dedicated her life to serving others and making a positive impact on those around her. She was a beacon of kindness to those that she touched. After enrolling in college and university in her late thirties, she graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Social Services. The day she graduated was one of the proudest moments in Maryrose's life, and she became a highly dedicated and respected Social Worker, who compassionately touched the lives of many throughout her career and as an active volunteer.

In her free time, Maryrose enjoyed gardening, painting, writing, travelling with family, and visiting with family, friends, and colleagues. She was loved for her strength of character, common sense, feistiness, and unrelenting kindness. Her sweet and gentle spirit shone through, and she was an independent woman determined to leave this world in a better place. Even during her last months of struggling with her health, she would often say how fortunate we were. Mom also always gracefully acknowledged the compassionate healthcare teams at St. Teresa’s Convenient Care, The Peter Lougheed and Rockyview General Hospitals, and Carewest Glenmore. Many of her healthcare workers commented on Maryrose’s kindness and beauty.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that if you so desire, please donate to a charity that is trying to make this world a better place. That is what Maryrose would have desired.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and loved Maryrose throughout her life. As she used to often say, “Stop and smell the flowers . . .”

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Maryrose’s family here.
