Obituary of Matthew Lorne McArthur

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew McArthur of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the age of 38 years.

 

Matthew was born on April 7, 1985, to Liana McArthur and Michael McArthur in Edmonton, AB. From a young age, he exhibited remarkable qualities of kindness, warmth, and determination. He grew up to be a beloved member of his family, a cherished friend, and an esteemed member of the community.

 

In his professional life, Matthew was a Journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, where he approached his work with reliability, dedication, technical skill, and integrity, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

 

Beyond his professional pursuits, Matthew was a devoted member of many car clubs in the Calgary area. He found joy in participating in these clubs with his son Zebyn and close friends, many of whom loved Matthew like a brother. His enthusiasm for cars was contagious. He embraced life fully, seeking adventure and new experiences at every opportunity.

 

May Matthew rest in eternal peace, knowing that he touched the lives of countless people with his infectious smile, gentle ‘teddy bear’ demeanor, and generosity. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others, offering support and friendship to all who crossed his path.

 

Matthew was also surrounded by family, close friends, and neighbors who enriched his life with their companionship and support; all of whom have cherished memories of him. He will be remembered for his compassion, optimism, and genuine kindness. His presence brought joy and comfort to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.

 

Matthew is survived by his beloved son, Zebyn Chaffey, his loving mother, Liana, and stepdad of over 30 years, Myron Hustak, his loving father, Michael (Heleme) McArthur, his siblings, Yasmine (Ali), Ryane and Muhammad Fyith-McArthur; his maternal grandparents, Mae Hurt and Garry (Darla) Bokvist, his paternal grandparents, Marilyn and Lorne McArthur, uncles, Darryl (Janine) Bokvist, Keith (Anne) Bokvist, Daniel (Shelly) McArthur, and Brian (Dawn) McArthur; and his aunt, Jeanne (Calvin) Yoder. He also leaves behind cousins, Kristopher (Kiera), Kyla and her children Everly, Hayden, and Harlow; Jessy, Melanie, Kaitlin, and Gavin Bokvist; as well as numerous cousins on the McArthur side. Matthew will be deeply missed by his family. Matthew was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Gerald Hurt.
