James Paterson

Obituary of James Paterson

March 3, 1968 – Toronto, Ontario

March 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

James was born in Toronto, ON, on Sunday, March 3, 1968, to Helen and Bill Paterson. He moved to Calgary, AB, in 1968 with his family.

James graduated from SAIT Polytechnic with his Red Seal certification in plumbing.

For sixteen years, James was married to Susan Paterson, and together they welcomed their dearly loved children, Ian and Jaimee Paterson. Following this chapter, he shared three wonderful years with Annelie Mueller before her passing. Subsequently, he found love with Jacqueline Zuber, his partner of eight years.

James accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his battle against diabetes, his children, and his family. He always took pride in his ability to live in the moment.

James was a devoted father and cherished time with friends in both everyday life and celebrations. He had a passion for the underwater world, which he expressed through his many fish tanks and scuba diving excursions. James also had a love for heavy metal music, often attending concerts worldwide and spending countless evenings in the mosh pit. He was known to enjoy a good horror film and never shied away from a hard day’s work.

James will be remembered for many things, including his tenacity to live life to the fullest in the exact manner he intended. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome, even if you had just met him.

James is survived by his son Ian (Marley) Paterson, his daughter Jaimee Paterson (Brian Cummings), and his four grandchildren, Ash Paterson, and Christian, Brooklyn, and Trinity Cummings, all of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his mother Helen Paterson, his father Bill Paterson, his younger sister Leanne Paterson, his brother-in-law Grant Tryhuk, his niece Kyra Paterson, and his nephew Lance Wise, all of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous cousins and friends, both here and abroad.

James was predeceased by his partner, Annelie Mueller.
