Obituary of Angie Schildwachter

March 17, 1923 – Chropov, Czechoslovakia

March 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Angie Schildwachter of Turin, AB, and Calgary, AB, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the age of 101 years.

Angie was born in the village of Chropov, Czechoslovakia on March 17, 1923. She was one of six children born to Mary and Jozeph Hornak.

Her voyage to Canada began when she was fifteen years old. The family departed from Prague on March 2, 1938, and arrived in Halifax on March 22, 1938. It took the family nearly three weeks by boat to get to Canada. The family settled in the Lethbridge area. She worked at the Metropolitan Store (Saan) in Lethbridge for 28 years as one of their best waitresses at the lunch counter.

She loved people. She was a social butterfly and loved sharing stories and memories with her many friends over coffee and kolache or poppyseed loaf (her specialties). She enjoyed singing, tending her garden, and crocheting.

A devoted Jehovah's Witness, she spent many hours sharing her love of the Bible with people she met.

Angie was predeceased by her husband Henry Schildwachter (November 2022), her parents, Mary and Jozeph; siblings, Joe, Mary, Josephine, and Victor.

Angie leaves behind her loving daughter Shirley Redford (Roger), four granddaughters, Susanne (Richard Clark), Kathleen (Greg Royer), Mandy (Wayne Maskewich), and Glenda (Darrell Groeneveld); ten great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. Angie is also survived by her brother John and many nieces and nephews.
