Obituary of Joanne Elsie Luca

Joanne Luca, soulmate and wife of William “Bill” Luca, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the age of 82 years.

Joanne was born in Delia, AB, on January 6, 1942, the night of the great Delia fire. She was the eleventh and youngest child of Joseph and Maria Masciangelo. She moved to Calgary in 1952 with her parents and attended St. Mary’s Girls School, where she was part of the Kappa Ki Gamma Sorority.

Joanne worked at Calgary Packers where she met Bill in 1962, and they were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on August 27, 1966. Joanne loved being surrounded by family and friends and travelling the world with Bill. This took them on numerous global adventures with many friends and family. Joanne and Bill’s love of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, spanned 30 years, where they made friends locally and from across the world. They shared in years of laughter, countless margaritas, and incredible memories with them.

Joanne loved reading, listening to music, crafting, watching hockey, and CFL football; she and Bill had Stampeders’ season tickets for over 25 years and attended two Grey Cups. She loved being on the beach and anywhere the sun was shining. Joanne was elegant, graceful, and carried a light that she cast upon others in her presence. She was a gift and uplifted everyone who knew her. Joanne’s incredible love, warmth, and presence will be deeply missed.

Besides her loving husband, Joanne is survived by her two daughters, Tracy Luca-Huger and Nicole Luca, and sons-in-law Alfred Huger and Jens Wachter, as well as her granddaughter, Milana Huger, all of Calgary, AB. Joanne is also survived by her dear sister Isabella Watson of Calgary, AB.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:30 a.m.
