Obituary of Philippa Flower Finnis

May 10, 1934 - March 20, 2024

Philippa Finnis, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the age of 89 years.

Philippa was born in Wellesbourne, England, to Evadne Lloyd and Robert Cyril Longsdon. In 1957, Philippa moved to Canada to nanny for a family in Ontario. When her time as a nanny came to an end, she travelled west to Alberta and worked at the A7 Ranch. She never went back to England. She moved to Calgary, where she met Tim, got married, and started a family. In 1968, Tim and Philippa bought twenty acres of land out in Priddis, where she lived until she died.

Philippa loved walking, snowshoeing, and going for drives and picnics in the beautiful Alberta Foothills and Rocky Mountains. Philippa also loved watching the wildlife at her doorstep. Deer, moose, bears, and owls all came to visit. She will always be remembered for her love of the outdoors, her beautiful home in Priddis, and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren, Kaleb Luke, and Nathan Richard.

Philippa leaves behind her daughter Sue Finnis, son Shaun Finnis and his wife Dale, grandsons Kaleb Luke and Nathan Richard; brothers Shaun Longsdon and Sampson Lloyd; sister Sara Harrity, and her cat Weasel.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard David (Tim) Finnis, her parents, and her devoted golden retriever, Hamish.

Philippa's family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A private family gathering will be held in Philippa’s memory at a later date.
