Obituary of David Kam Hoy Sun

David Sun of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the age of 87 years.

David was born in Shabian Village, Zhangjiabian District, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, China, on March 16, 1937. He left China to go to Trinidad in 1961, before moving to Calgary in 1971.

He held the position of cook at both the Port-o-Call Inn and Foothills Hospital. David cherished moments spent with his children and grandchildren, whether sharing a meal, strolling by the river, or engaging in playing outdoors.

He will be most remembered for his simple, easy-going approach to life, enjoying his retired years in Crescent Heights, and sharing leisurely lunches with his family.

David is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kailen; his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Stacey; and four grandchildren, Ari, Ashlyn, Zia, and Kinton.

David is also survived by his brother Sun Tian Hai, and sister-in-law Luo Su Qing; and his four sisters, Sun Yue Rong in China, Sun Mei Xing in Australia, Sun Mei Yan and his brother-in-law Chen Huan Guang in Calgary, and Sun Mei Ai and his brother-in-law Sun Zhuo Jun in Calgary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

David was predeceased by his parents Sun Hsi Mei and Sun Lin Chiu.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Funeral Services will follow at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
