Obituary of William Bakular

September 22, 1929 - Ersekujvar, Hungary

March 25, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Bela “William” Bakular, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the age of 94 years.

Bill was born in Ersekujvar, Hungary, on September 22, 1929, and became a Canadian citizen on October 3, 1958.

We knew Bill as a talented and prolific artist and a WWII survivor. He was known for his long and entertaining stories, which he loved to share with his captive audience over a glass or two of vodka.

A confirmed bachelor and ladies' man, his proudest achievement in life was marrying his devout Catholic wife, whom he met while attending Mass at the beautiful Sacred Heart Church in Calgary. During their marriage, Mom lovingly supported his art, kept him fed and warm, and skillfully nursed him back to health, from his bout with cancer.

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth Buhnia from Winnipeg, MB, and his brother Joseph, from Flesherton, ON.

As per Bill’s wishes, a private Funeral Service will be held for his immediate family and friends.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Bill’s family here.

In living memory of William “Bill” Bakular, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
