Obituary of Jean Ruby NORTON (nee Hildreth)

Jean Norton of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the age of 85 years.

Jean was born in Islay, Alberta to Daisy and Albert Hildreth on February 3, 1934. Jean’s first job was with AGT in Vermilion mastering the switchboard and keeping her eye on the RCMP that were in the office next door. That is where she met Dennis and a great story of love and adventures began. Then, while raising her children she honed her master garage sale skills into an antique and collectable business – her specialty was finding beautiful, quirky things. She was a natural enterpreneur and as a master cook and baker it was a natural fit that in 1984 she began The Cookbook Co. with her daughter. We will miss Jean’s love of life, her smile, her unfaltering kindness and her sense of adventure. She loved best of all just to be with friends and family -- laughing and making everyone happy and always well fed.

Jean is survived by her children, Robert (Karen) and Gail; her grandchildren, Kelci and Leah (Darcy); and her great-grandchildren, Zoe and Luna, along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Jean is predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Dennis Norton and her four siblings Nora, Clem, Eileen and Lillian.
