Laura WATSON

Obituary of Laura Kathryn WATSON

WATSON, Laura Kathryn

April 22, 1986 - October 9, 2019

Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce that Laura Kathryn Watson passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.

Despite living with Rett Syndrome, Laura lived a full and happy life. She faced all her challenges with great strength and resilience and her sweet disposition always shone through (not to mention, her sweet tooth). We will miss her smiles, her laughter, and will even miss the grumpy looks she gave when we fussed over her. Laura enjoyed many moments in her life and especially loved the little things.  She loved listening to her dad play guitar, hanging out with her friends May and Elvie, watching her niece and nephew play, watching Disney movies (especially Snow White), going for walks in the park, snuggling with her cat Samantha and dog Sidney, looking at books, eating cake (or pretty much any dessert), going on excursions with her friends at Options, and spending time with her mom.  Laura’s favourite trip was to Disneyland where she smiled for a week. Laura was born in Calgary and lived here at home with her family her whole life.

She is survived by her mother Pat Watson, brother Chris Watson, sister-in-law Kara Lamy, niece Avery Watson, nephew Aidan Watson, and her aunt, uncles, and cousins. She is predeceased by her father Mike Watson, and her grandparents.

October is Rett Awareness month and we encourage everyone to learn about this debilitating condition and the heroic efforts to find a cure. See reverserett.com and Rettsyndrome.org

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family wants to thank the many people who contributed to Laura’s full life and happiness over the years including all those at Calgary Quest Preschool, Emily Follensbee School, and to all the doctors who helped her along the way. We want to especially thank May Ajoc who befriended and gave loving care to Laura in our home over the last seven years and taught her the joys of being an ‘honorary Filipina’, Laura’s friend Elvie Onera who was always there for us, Amanda Burns and everyone at Options Day Program who made sure she had many fun experiences, Shirley Peters who welcomed Laura into her Day Home for many years, and Dr. Glenn Curtis for all the kind care he gave to Laura.

A tree will be planted in living memory of Laura Watson.  McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
