Obituary of David Mansel WYLIE
December 5, 1928 – Donavon, Saskatchewan
September 10, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta.
Dave beloved husband of Norma Wylie (nee McMahon) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the age of 85 years.
Dave was the eldest son of Mansel and Florrie Wylie and spent his early years in Donavon, Saskatchewan. Following high school, Dave attended Saskatoon Normal School and then taught school in Wilkie and Ardath, Saskatchewan.
In 1950, Dave attended the University of Denver where he was invited to play with his brother Ben on the University of Denver Pioneer’s hockey team. Dave graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and started his career at Westinghouse in Hamilton, Ontario. Dave then moved west to work at the Coop refinery in Regina, Saskatchewan where he met Norma McMahon and they were married on November 10, 1955. During their 10 years in Regina, their two daughters, JoAnn and Barbara were born.
In 1964, the family moved to Calgary where Dave worked at Pacific Petroleum / Petro Canada in various positions in the Manufacturing and Marketing Departments retiring in 1984 as Manager of Product Supply. Dave was a founder of Intersul Resources following his retirement from Pacific and continued as a principal of the company until his retirement in 1992.
For his entire life, Dave was always the “up” person who loved his work and his sporting passions and was a joy to be around as is evidenced by his many friends at Canyon Meadows Golf Course where he was a permanent fixture or on the Glencoe Club curling ice where he always had a smile on his face. Dave’s favorite memories are of the times he spent golfing, curling and skiing with Norma and their daughters and families. Dave also lived for his warm winters in Phoenix with his fellow snowbirds and his brother Ben and wife Fran. Dave was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, the Glencoe Club and a past member of the Calgary Petroleum Club.
Dave is survived by his wife Norma, his loving children JoAnn and Mark Josefchak and Barbara and Kel Johnston; his grandchildren Wylie, Danica, Andie, Cole, and Juliana as well his brother Ben and family.
