Obituary of John William WASSON

January 17, 1943 – Calgary, Alberta September 7, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta John William Wasson passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the age of 71 years. John grew up in the Ghost River area west of Cochrane, AB. After graduating from high school at Cochrane High, he went on to complete a BSc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, entered the oil and gas industry in Calgary and specialized in Reservoir Engineering. The highly sought after expertise that he developed over his time in the petroleum industry brought him many career opportunities both locally and around the world. John loved outdoor pursuits, hiking, rock climbing, hunting, and fishing. While he was both an enthusiastic spectator and participant in many sports, golf held a very special place in his heart. John is survived by his wife Donna Wasson; son Michael Wasson; sister and brother-in-law Anne Wasson and Vic Norman; three nieces, Jennifer Snelgrove, Michelle Norman and Kendra Norman; aunt Donna Butters; and three cousins, Richard Wigmore, Erik Butters, and Lamont Butters. He was predeceased by his mother Evelyn in 1990, and his father Bill in 2004. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (10 River Heights Dr, Cochrane AB) on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 11:00 am.
